Algonquin Incremental Market (AIM) Compressor Station Upgrades

Expanding Pipeline Capacity

Client

Spectra Energy

Location

Chaplin, Connecticut

Key Elements

  • Geotechnical engineering
  • Compressor station upgrades
  • Test borings

The Algonquin Incremental Market (AIM) Project will expand the pipeline capacity of Spectra Energy’s existing Algonquin Gas Transmission system, allowing abundant regional natural gas supplies to flow reliably into the New England region.

As part of the project, GEI was engaged by Willbros Engineering and Spectra Energy to provide geotechnical engineering services for upgrades to two compressor stations in Connecticut and Rhode Island. Each station is to receive a new compressor housed in a pre-engineered housing structure.

Appurtenant items such as maintenance warehouses, various valve, pipe, and electrical supports, parking areas, and a gas cooler pad are also planned. GEI performed test borings at active compressor stations, provided geotechnical evaluation of subsurface conditions and delivered dynamic foundation parameters for compressor block design.
