FERC Filing for an Underwater High Pressure Gas Transmission Pipeline

Supporting New Pipelines

Client

Consortium; Long Island Lighting Company, Brooklyn Union Gas, East Texas Gas, Transcontinental Gas Company

Location

Raritan, New Jersey

Key Elements

  • FERC filing environmental sections
  • Literature searches and baseline data assessment
  • Sediment quality survey
  • Terrestrial ecology field studies

GEI staff scientists provided major environmental sections for a FERC Filing for a proposed new 38-mile high-pressure gas transmission pipeline from Raritan, New Jersey to the East Rockaway Generating Station.

Besides conducting literature searches and assessing baseline data, GEI also conducted a sediment quality survey at 76 stations located along the proposed undersea route. Terrestrial ecology field studies were also conducted along an alternative corridor that cut across Staten Island before proceeding offshore. Although the FERC Filing was essentially complete, the project was terminated for financial reasons.
