Traverse City, MI – October 30, 2017 – GEI Consultants, Inc. (GEI), one of the nation’s leading geotechnical, environmental, water resources, ecological science and engineering firms, announced today the acquisition of Inland Seas Engineering (ISE), a Traverse City, Michigan-based engineering consulting firm. The merger of the two firms will strengthen GEI’s operations in Traverse City and northern Michigan and will provide the oil and gas market with a full range of engineering, environmental, and natural resources services.
Ms. Becky Smits founded ISE in 1993 and has grown the firm to provide services to clients across the state of Michigan and beyond. Ms. Smits stated, “We felt the opportunity to join GEI was in the best interest of our employees and clients. This merger brings immediate benefit to our existing clients through new services and will allow our staff to service additional clients in our community.”
ISE has provided a variety of engineering and surveying services to energy industry clients since 1994 at petroleum terminals, refineries, bulk storage and distribution facilities, gas stations/truck stops, pipelines and natural gas processing and storage facilities. Projects typically involve soil and groundwater assessment and remediation, UST removal oversight, foundation analysis for design and construction, materials testing and ALTA surveys.
With the acquisition of ISE in Traverse City, GEI now has offices with engineering and environmental services throughout Michigan, including Lansing, Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Marquette, Iron River and Iron Mountain. GEI President Raymond Hart, P.E., states, “We could not be more pleased to add the staff and capabilities of ISE to our company, their commitment to technical excellence and client service is a perfect match for the GEI family.”
The transaction closed on October 27, 2017.
