Carlsbad, CA – GEI Consultants Inc., one of the nation’s leading geotechnical, environmental, water resources, and ecological science and engineering firms, is pleased to announce C. Fredrik (Rick) Ahlers, P.E. has joined the firm as an Oil & Gas SET Leader.

Mr. Ahlers has been practicing groundwater and remediation hydrology since 1995 and is very well known in the Oil & Gas and Environmental Industries as well as others. He is an experienced technical leader and project technical director with the ability to communicate effectively with regulators and other technical experts as well as non-technical stakeholders. He has served as the technical lead and/or engineer in responsible charge on numerous projects, guiding them from investigation through remediation to closure. He has worked for a broad range of clients, many in the oil and gas industry, providing in-depth knowledge of non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) characterization approaches and remediation technologies to develop NAPL management strategies and, as appropriate, remedial system designs for NAPL-affected sites; and for evaluating the performance, progress, and end-points of remediation.

Mr. Ahlers has also used that expertise for development and dissemination of LNAPL guidance for the Interstate Technology & Regulatory Council (ITRC) through web-based documents, internet-based training and classroom instruction. Other advocacy for science-based approaches to NAPL management has included in-person and web-based training for regulators, clients, and staff, organizing and chairing NAPL-oriented conference sessions, and presenting at public and private conferences, seminars, and meetings. He has also provided technical assistance and guidance for many NAPL projects across several client portfolios including peer reviews for Chevron, Kinder Morgan, ExxonMobil, and Tesoro.

Mr. Ahlers earned his M.S. in Hydrology, Civil, and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and his B.S. in Physics from Occidental College. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in California.
